Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, claims Rangers are interested in signing Stewart Downing.
The 34-year-old midfielder is soon to be out of contract at Championship side Middlesborough, and therefore available on a free.
The North-East based reporter also claims Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn are interested.
Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday & Blackburn are all showing an interest in Stewart Downing. The former England international is a free agent after leaving Middlesbrough.

It’s not the first time the Gers have been linked to Downing, either.
Teeside Live reported back in March that Steven Gerrard was mulling over a swoop. The Rangers manager is a former Liverpool and England teammate of the veteran.
With Downing’s future still in the balance, it’s suggested interest is still there.
Yet, this would be a strange move. Sure, Rangers plucked for two quality, experienced players in Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe back in January.
With 35 England caps and over 400 Premier League appearances, Downing certainly has a similar level of experience.
However, is he really the same calibre of player? Furthermore, it’s dangerous to become reliant on old hands. What’s the point in all the investment in the youth system, if the club are going to sign players in their mid-30s in every window?
Plenty of Bears are thinking along the same lines. Here’s a selection of reactions to Downie’s tweet:
No interest in him coming to Glasgow Rangers whatsoever. Had a decent career but at 35 and not the player he was. No thanks.

Meanwhile, here are eight other players Rangers are being linked to with the window approaching.
