Spanish giants Valencia have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Jack Wilshere such is the midfielder’s desire to join Rangers.
That’s according to Portuguese outlet Record, who claim that the former England international midfielder wants to move to Ibrox following his release from West Ham United in October.
The Press Association have previously reported that the midfielder would be open to a move to Ibrox but Rangers fans are mixed about these latest claims.
The Gers are well-stocked in the midfield department with the likes of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and Bongani Zungu competing for places.
Wilshere, 28, would do well to break into a competitive team and given the wages he’d demand this may well be a risky investment the Ibrox club don’t need to make.
But it was Rangers supporters who first mooted the suggestion Wilshere should move to Ibrox.
The Gers fans were responding to the news that Wilshere had left West Ham but since then more than a few have raised their doubts about a potential move.
For others, the ex-Arsenal youngster has the potential to be a revelation in Rangers colours if the club can get him fit and firing.
Here’s how Rangers fans reacted to reports claiming Wilshere is holding out for a move to the southside of Glasgow:
I can’t see us signing him, we already have zungu, jack, Davis, Kamara, Aribo, Arfield which gives us 2 players for each 3 CM position, also linked with Kenny McLean which to my guess is only if Davis retires or Kamara is sold, so can’t see us throwing big wages at Wilshere https://t.co/b8qaf1gIxN

Sometimes you just got to laugh , last week rangers rumoured to be after Kenny McLean who most said would be a started yet the same people are saying Jack Wilshere doesn’t get in our starting 11.
Jack Wilshere is twice the player McLean will ever be

Back to the Jack Wilshere debate. If he's fit like he says, he's the best player in Scotland. Absolute fact.

Don’t want him don’t need him

I think we do. Davo maybe got another season in him. Chances are we may cash in on Kamara in the summer after euros. So need a replacement

You don't knock back the chance to sign Jack Wilshire mate, if the gaffer wants him and he can get him fit he instantly becomes a first team starter. His last 2 clubs have been fighting relegation which 100% doesn't suit him tactically. He's some player.

A fit wilshere will be a stand out up here. It’s all about whether he is injury free and ready to play. Even if he signs today, will take him 3-4 weeks to get up to fitness.

We have six midfielders there is no room for him as it currently stands

If he passes a fitness test, i would take him in a minute

As good a player as he is, think about it more n more and do we really need Jack Wilshere the now?

Can’t believe people on this thread are saying decent back up but nah
Jack Wilshere takes guys like Kamara and Jack up another level there’s really no argument to say if he’s available and on Gerrards list then we sign him – must make financial sense for Rangers tho obviously

The fans aren’t the only ones talking about Wilshere potentially moving to Ibrox with Rangers legend Ally McCoist claiming it would be “great” if he comes to Rangers [Scottish Sun].
There’s also an argument that it’s time Rangers moved on from the circus surrounding the player’s future in the media.
