Rangers fans have reacted after Greg Docherty bid an emotional farewell to Ibrox on social media following his transfer to Hull City.

Docherty’s move was confirmed on Thursday afternoon with the midfielder penning a three-year contract at the KCOM Stadium after Rangers accepted a bid of £350,000 plus add-ons [STV].

It marks the end of a two-and-a-half-year stay at Ibrox for Docherty but the 23-year-old only accumulated 19 competitive appearances.

After an encouraging start under Graeme Murty, he dropped down the pecking order and was shipped out on loan by Steven Gerrard to Shrewsbury Town and more recently, to fellow Premiership club Hibernian.

Realising that opportunities weren’t going to be forthcoming this season, Docherty has cut his losses and headed south of the border in search of first-team football.

In an emotional address to fellow Gers supporters on social media, though, the bluenose suggested it won’t be long before he’s back at Ibrox in a non-playing capacity.

“Representing Rangers is something I always did so with immense pride and never took for granted,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I can’t thank the fans enough for the incredible support shown to me throughout my time at the club however, it is time take on the next challenge in my career.

“I’m already looking forward to returning as a supporter in the future when it is safe to do so!”

The message has received a lot of attention from Bears, racking up 5000 likes inside half an hour.

Docherty also shared the post on Twitter and Rangers supporters took the opportunity to wish him well at his new club, with plenty suggesting they thought he had been hard done by during his time at Ibrox.

Here’s a selection of reactions:

Plenty of Hull City fans are delighted with the signing, with some predicting Docherty will help them gain promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
