Rangers fans rave about Ibrox star after Scottish Cup accolade confirmed

Rangers fans have raved about Steven Davis on social media after it was confirmed that he had won the Scottish Cup Goal of the Fourth Round accolade.

As his career has progressed, Davis has spent less time in and around the penalty area and more time pinging passes left and right from a deeper position.

That change to his playing style is reflected in his statistics.

For example, he netted five goals and registered 13 assists during the 2011/12 Premiership season with Rangers but has just a solitary assist and no goals to his name in the league so far this campaign.

Therefore, few would have expected him to open the scoring in Sunday’s Scottish Cup Old Firm, but that he did and in spectacular fashion.

The Northern Ireland international showed striker’s instincts to react to a touch from a Hoops defender and fire an overhead kick past Scott Bain from six yards out.

The 10th-minute goal set the Gers on their way to what was a comfortable win, throughout which Davis strutted his stuff in midfield, looking a class above those in the opposition.

His strike was nominated for the Goal of the Fourth Round award, alongside efforts from Christian Doidge of Hibernian, Niall McGinn of Aberdeen and Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell.

After a fan vote, Davis came out on top, with the outcome confirmed by the official Scottish Cup Twitter page on Friday morning.
