Rangers fans have raved about footage of Nikica Jelavic’s momentous League Cup Final-winning goal, which was scored on this day nine years ago.
With no football planned for the foreseeable future, the club’s media team have been digging through the archives to post footage of memorable goals from yesteryear.
On Thursday, Bears got all nostalgic about Pedro Mendes’ screamer at Parkhead in 2008. Today, it was another Old Firm strike, but one that barely made it over the line.
The 2010/2011 League Cup final was finely balanced at 1-1 in the first period of extra time when the Gers won a free-kick just inside the opposition half.
Then came some quick thinking from Vladimir Weiss, whose well-weighted pass sent Jelavic through on goal. After letting the ball run across his body, he slid a first-time effort beyond Fraser Forster.
When the ball struck the inside of the right post and came back off the line, it looked like the Croatian forward hadn’t quite done enough. But then, with a stunned Hampden watching on, the ball spun back and into the left side of the goal, sparking wild celebrations.

It was to be the only goal in extra time as Walter Smith’s side emerged 2-1 winners and lifted the trophy.
It was Jelavic’s most famous moment in Light Blue and one of 36 goals he scored in 56 appearances during a storied stint with the club.
