Rangers fans are reminiscing after archive footage of Pedro Mendes’ screamer against Celtic was posted by the club’s Twitter account on Wednesday.

With the current near Europe-wide suspension of all footballing activity, archive footage is going to be prevalent over the coming months, but there are few better strikes in the vault than this one.

The Gers were 2-1 up away at Parkhead in August 2008 when Mendes announced himself in Glasgow.

Just after the hour mark, Steven Davis pulled a corner back to the Portuguese midfielder around 30 yards from goal.

After a few steps to steady himself, he latched onto the pass and rifled a first-time right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, silencing the home crowd and sparking chaos in the away end.

It was a first Rangers goal for the silky operator, coming just a matter of weeks after his move from Portsmouth.

The Gers would go on to win the contest 4-2, with Mendes’ stunner supported by a Kenny Miller brace and a Daniel Cousin opener.

The league and Scottish Cup titles came to Ibrox at the end of that season too, in what was a fine period for the club under the management of Walter Smith.

Here’s a selection of reactions to the footage from Twitter:
