Australian 80s band Mental as Anything have taken to Facebook to thank Rangers fans for adopting their classic song Live It Up and firing it to the top of the UK charts ahead of Christmas.
Live it Up has been adopted by the Ibrox club’s faithful as Rangers’ unofficial charge to a legendary 55th title as the club look to end 10 years of hurt and inflict pain on our rivals.
The song skyrocketed to the top of the UK iTunes chart with the club’s supporters eager to get the track as close to Christmas number one as possible.
Mental as Anything bassist Peter O’Doherty had previously claimed the band thought someone was pulling their leg regarding the song’s re-emergence [ABC Radio].
Alongside bandmate, Reg Mombassa, Mental as Anything paid tribute to the bluenose support as they toasted the song’s resurfacing almost one year on from the passing of their frontman Greedy Smith.
“We’d just like to thank the Glasgow Rangers fans for liking our song,” said Mombassa.
“It’s pretty weird that it became a hit on the iTunes charts almost exactly a year after (original member and singer) Greedy Smith died.
“Greedy wrote the song and it’s a shame he wasn’t around to see this because he would have been surprised and delighted.
“Good luck with the upcoming matches.”
It’s a great story and hopefully this isn’t the last time we hear Live it Up being belted out by the Rangers support as they look to go on and secure silverware this season.
The Rangers support were very grateful for the message from the band and thanked these honorary bluenoses for their message:

The Rangers support have come together to embrace the song and it’s got a nice personal touch for Mental as Anything given their frontman passed away last year.
But even the Rangers support can’t agree on who started the campaign which has gone global in recent weeks.
