Some Rangers fans are pining for Vladimir Weiss after footage of an excellent solo goal against Motherwell on Boxing Day 2010 was posted by the club’s Twitter account.

Weiss spent a solitary season at the Gers on loan from Manchester City, but that didn’t stop him becoming a fan favourite.

A versatile creative player, Weiss wasn’t prolific, but he had an eye for goal and an even keener one for a pass.

It was he who set up Nikica Jelavic’s famous League Cup final winner against Celtic in March 2011, but for this throwback, we need to travel to a few months prior to that special day.

The Gers triumphed 4-1 over ‘Well in this festive fixture and Weiss was the destroyer in chief.

He was directly involved in three of his side’s four goals, registering two assists and grabbing a fine strike of his own.

The footage shows him receiving a pass from Steven Davis around 30 yards from goal.

Driving forward, he drops his shoulder and glides past two defenders before sliding a composed finish back across goal and into the bottom left corner, before jumping over the advertising hoardings and going to the fans to celebrate.

It was one of five goals he scored during his brief stay at Ibrox, as the Gers walked away with both the league title and the League Cup.

The footage had some nostalgic Bears pining for 30-year-old Weiss – who recently joined Slovan Bratislava following his release by Al-Gharafa – to return to Glasgow.
