Ever since Steven Gerrard directed criticism towards the Rangers players on Wednesday night, it very much appears that certain voices in the media are determined to use it against him.
The likes of Celtic cheerleader Chris Sutton pushed the narrative in a loathsome column with the Daily Record, whilst Gerrard was forced to shut down a reporter [RangersTV] for persistent questioning on the subject yesterday.
It very much appears that the Rangers boss is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.
“Soft touch Gerrard fails to gun for stumbling Ibrox flops”.
So whilst this desperate clamouring to hypocritically criticise the Rangers boss for the criticism he aimed at his own players persists, consider where it is coming from.
As the pressure ramps up at Ibrox amid a run of form which threatens to all but decimate our season, this very much feels like the dark side turning the screw.
For any Rangers fans thinking about indulging in this, just for one second consider the position that the Ibrox gaffer is in.
Over the course of the last 18 months, Gerrard has transformed this Rangers side into one which up until a few weeks ago looked entirely capable of mounting a title challenge.
The job he has done cannot be understated and any suggestion that he’ll lose the dressing room by dressing down his players is as ludicrous as it is insidious.

Steven Gerrard knows these players better than anyone else and we need everyone pulling in the same direction as we look to get our title tilt back on track.
