Rangers fans have leapt to the defence of former winger Neil McCann after he was rounded on by Celtic fans following comments made by Martin O’Neill.
Ex-Celtic manager O’Neill took at aim at “basement dweller” pundits who haven’t played at the top of the game but who criticise the likes of Neil Lennon in his role at Celtic.
Celtic fans would then – for some reason – apply these comments to nine trophy-winning winger McCann for comments he made about Odsonne Edouard in Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final.
Neil McCann had criticised Odsonne Edouard for his “disrespectful” Panenka penalty against ex-teammate and Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
It’s since drawn the ire of the likes of Neil Lennon, who was asked about McCann’s comments ahead of the midweek fixture card, and Celtic fans have tarnished the ex-winger with O’Neill’s brush.

But the ex-Aston Villa boss was clearly not talking about McCann given the winger has been there, done it, and lifted every trophy in Scotland.
Rangers supporters railed against the Celtic fan suggestion on Twitter as they leapt to the defence of one of their own:

Whilst McCann might not be appreciated by the lesser half of the city, he’s certainly a popular man in Glasgow’s southside.
Away from an Ibrox career littered with trophy success, McCann also earned the plaudits of Rangers fans for his coverage alongside a key Scotland figure on RTV this weekend.
