Rangers have plenty to beat Celtic with regarding the fabled Guard of Honour as the Gers prepare to play a Scottish Premiership fixture as Champions for the first time since securing their 55th league crown.

Not only will this take place in an Old Firm match, but Rangers will kick their first ball as Scottish Premiership Champions on rival territory.

We’ve already seen those Neil Lennon Guard of Honours comments back in May 2019, when the now resigned Celtic boss claimed the club would’ve paid Rangers the tribute.

This was after the Gers snubbed Lennon and co as they entered Ibrox as Champions.

“It’s a break from tradition. I think we would have done it if the shoe had been on the other foot. But it’s not a major issue,” said Lennon [Scottish Sun].

“It would have been a touch of class if they did it. I’m disappointed they are not. Celtic would have done it.”

Former manager Brendan Rodgers has also been out in the press encouraging his old side to pay Rangers the compliment [Sky Sports], with fans – still reeling from the death of Terry Munro – not taking to the comments particularly well.

Now, a leading Glasgow newspaper has suggest that Celtic should give the Guard of Honour to get “Old Firm bragging rights before a ball is kicked” [Glasgow Times].

Rangers don’t want a Guard of Honour – regardless of Celtic’s stance – and the rivalry is that heated that it was merely used to bait Rangers fans back in 2019.

Now the shoe is on the other foot Celtic are being shown up but this suggestion from Glasgow Times columnist Matthew Lindsay has Gers fans in stitches.

The Ibrox support are sure the Celtic supporters can commiserate with the Guard of Honour trophy should the Parkhead club take his advice this weekend:

Not that any Rangers fan anywhere wants one – but what an unbelievable sight it would be if Celtic clapped Rangers onto their own park to congratulate 55 the season they lost 10IAR.

The pictures, the memories, the bragging rights – they’d all belong to Rangers then.

Rangers and Celtic are two clubs in a perpetual battle for those rights in Scotland and our Parkhead rivals have reportedly joined Rangers in the race for a highly-rated English-based wonderkid.
