Rangers fans fume at ex-players for devaluing club’s stars

In a week where figures such as £40m [Scottish Sun] and £50m [Daily Record] have been attached to Alfredo Morelos, you’d be forgiven for thinking Rangers fans would be gluttonously indulging in the price tag attached to one of the club’s biggest stars.

The figures are after all-around double that of the Scottish transfer record-breaking fee of £25m that saw Kieran Tierney move to Arsenal from Celtic in the summer.

But the Ibrox support has taken umbrage with some of the club’s ex-players for attempting to burst their money stuffed bubble.

The likes of Barry Ferguson and Kris Boyd have both spoken down Morelos’ value after all the outlandish £50m talk.

Granted, Dave King and Steven Gerrard were more using these figures to ward off potential interest.

Far from being an exact figure of the Ibrox club’s valuation of the player, they’re symbolic of his value to Rangers at present.

But supporters want the club to receive as much as they can for their prime asset when the time comes and Morelos moves on.

The argument is that if Celtic cheerleaders such as Chris Sutton can attach ludicrous sums like £20m to ropey striker Leigh Griffiths, who’s hardly played in a year, why is it so outlandish for our ex-players to do the same?

Morelos is after all far more likely to fetch £40m than Griffiths is 20.

Even the likes of Martin Keown have come came out defending Morelos’ valuation, suggesting he could move for £35m-£45m when he eventually breaks Rangers fans’ hearts.

For too long Celtic’s ex-players have been talking up the value of their players whilst being permanently outspoken about the value of ours.

Is it time our ex-stars, Rangers minded pundits and the club’s supporters starting biting back?
