Rangers fans have been left angered by an email from the club which relates to a ticketing failure that prevented supporters getting into the ground against Malmö.

Hundreds of fans were locked out of some if not all of the Champions League clash in an embarrassing situation which stemmed from a number of reasons.

These related mostly to the club updating old smartcards, the adoption of QR code tickets and the turnstiles being significantly undermanned for the match.

The ticket office was also besieged by a raft of angry supporters, many of whom have been demanding answers after they were locked out of the ground.

A portion of the Rangers email reads:

“On Tuesday evening we had to contend with several issues to the return of fans back into Ibrox.

“This was exacerbated by a significant number of people attempting to gain entry without a valid ticket.

“Nevertheless, we recognise that some fans were impacted by the transition to a new ticketing system.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

“We continue to work to improve the performance of our ticketing system and wider customer service set-up.

“Rest assured, we continue to invest resources in upgrading and improving our systems and processes.”

This is followed by information relating to the new ticketing system, the activation of smart-cards and the purchase of tickets.

But despite waiting all week for a response, the lack of responsibility taken – despite the apology – has hit a raw nerve with supporters.

Fans are already licking their wounds after the Champions League exit to Malmo and this hasn’t exactly helped soothe any of their worries ahead of the new campaign.

Rangers fans had previously expressed their anger at the situation on Twitter as fans missed out on their long-awaited return to Ibrox, nearly 18 months in the making.
