Rangers fans have reacted with delight after German club Hamburg sent a congratulatory message following Saturday’s win over Celtic.
The Gers triumphed 1-0 at Ibrox to go a massive 19 points clear at the top of the table despite producing a below-par performance.
Allan McGregor produced several outstanding saves in the first half to keep the scores level and the momentum shifted when Nir Bitton was sent off just after the hour mark for a foul on Alfredo Morelos.
The Gers then benefitted from some good fortune as Callum McGregor’s 70th-minute own goal gave them an advantage they were able to hold onto.
Supporters rejoiced on Twitter after the game as the Gers took a big step towards a 55th top-flight title and Hamburg were quick to join in the celebrations.
“Start 2021 right, top result @RangersFC,” they tweeted.
The German club have a long-established affiliation with Rangers and the two clubs regularly exchange good luck messages on social media ahead of big matches.
The post was well-received by Bears, with several suggesting that a friendly between the clubs should be a priority when fans are allowed back in stadia.

Hamburg are still trying to earn promotion back to the top-flight after their first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2017/18 season.
They are currently in third position in the Bundesliga 2. and just two points off top spot, though, having won three games in a row in the run-up to Christmas.
Saturday’s result was huge for Rangers but it wasn’t all good news from the Old Firm, as Steven Gerrard confirmed after the game that a key player has picked up an injury.
