Rangers fans’ hopes of returning to Ibrox in the near future have been dealt a major blow by a Scottish Government update.
Gers supporters have been shut out since a Europa League clash against Bayer Leverkusen on 12th March 2020, with all home matches since then taking place behind closed doors.
With a gradual easing of restrictions across the UK beginning this month, it had been hoped that a limited number of fans would return to the iconic stadium for the final matchdays of the season.
However, while a Scottish Government update suggests that the fans of some other clubs are in luck, Bears are set to miss out.
At Level 2 in the tier system, 500 seated fans will be permitted at outdoor events.
However, Scotland is only set to move to Level 2 on 17th May, two days after Rangers take on Aberdeen at Ibrox in their final Premiership game of the season.
The only clubs set to benefit from the change to regulations will be those competing in the Premiership, Championship and League One play-off finals.
It’s an agonising blow for Rangers supporters and it’s particularly galling given that plans are in place for as many as 12,000 to be in attendance at Hampden for Euro 2020 matches in June.
Meanwhile, a rapid winger scored a brilliant goal and produced an assist in a fine solo display just days after being linked with a move to Rangers.
