Speedy reported Rangers transfer target Carlos Mendes Gomes produced a brilliant display for Morecambe on Tuesday, just days after the Gers first were linked with interest.
The Scottish Sun reported over the weekend that Rangers had made contact with the Shrimps regarding Gomes, who at that point had 12 goals and an assist for the season.

It was asserted that Gers scouts had watched the former Atletico Madrid youth on multiple occasions and that the club had registered their interest, knowing that his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The report may well have provided extra motivation to the 22-year-old, as he shone in a 4-1 win over Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.
Mendes Gomes scored his side’s second goal of the night in the 37th minute, taking an outstanding touch on the edge of the area before leaving an opposition centre-back trailing in his wake and firing low underneath the keeper.
He then turned provider on the hour mark, showing awareness to latch onto a quick free-kick before drilling a cross from the right that picked out Yann Songo’o.
The win moved the Shrimps to fourth in the EFL League Two table and they still have an outside chance of automatic promotion to League One, with five matches remaining.
With his future uncertain at this stage, Mendes Gomes will no doubt be looking to produce more strong individual showings between now and the end of the season.
If he can, there’s a chance he could end up at Ibrox next season as the Gers look to defend their title and reach the Champions League proper.
Meanwhile, the TV details have finally been confirmed for Sunday’s Scottish Cup Old Firm, after Premier Sports issued a surprise update.
