Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been called up to the Colombia national team as his fine form at Ibrox earns a recall with the South Americans.

The Cerete-born forward has been on exceptional form this season, hitting 20 goals for Rangers before Guy Fawkes night.

The rampant Ibrox hitman has earned five caps for Colombia, and he’ll be hoping to finally break his scoring duck in the friendlies against Peru and Ecuador in Miami and New Jersey respectively.

The call-up comes after Morelos was included in Carlos Queiroz’s preliminary national squad [Colombia].

Morelos will now join the likes of James Rodriguez, Davison Sanchez and Juan Cuadrado in the South American nation’s full squad.

There was controversy during the last international break when the Daily Record ran a negative story about the Colombian’s performance in his country’s 3-0 defeat to Algeria.

That’s despite South American football journalists suggesting Morelos was a bright spark on a tough night for the Colombians.

Rangers fans leapt to his defence then, and they’ve taken to Twitter to congratulate Morelos on the call-up to the Colombia squad.
