Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been called up to the provisional 34-man Colombia squad for their upcoming friendly matches with Peru and Ecuador in Miami and New Jersey respectively.

The on-fire Colombian has now hit 15 goals for Rangers and continues to impress for the Ibrox club this season.

His form obviously hasn’t gone unnoticed and now there’s every chance the ferocious striker will travel to the US for the matches against the South American nations.

His Colombia call-up comes despite the Scottish press desperately feeding a narrative that the striker was being berated for his performances in the last round of internationals.

Morelos is part of a stuttering Colombia side still finding their way under new boss Carlos Queiroz and the Daily Record saw fit to negatively report on Morelos in the aftermath of a 3-0 defeat to Algeria.

A leading South American football journalist leaped to El Bufalo’s defence, noting that he was one of the more impressive players in an abject Colombia performance.

It had bluenoses pretty up-in-arms, and maybe that was the point.

It’s just as well the Colombian national team scouts and Carlos Queiroz don’t read the Daily Record.

Alfredo Morelos now has four caps for his country but is yet to find the net for the Colombian national team.

There will be an army of supporters both in his homeland and back in Scotland vying for him to break his duck this time around, should he make the final cut.
