Celtic boss Neil Lennon believes that his side would be closer to Rangers had James Forrest not missed most of the season through injury and Rangers fans are buckled on Twitter as a result.

The Parkhead club have been without influential winger James Forrest for the majority of the campaign ever since having surgery on an ankle injury in September.

The winger might’ve netted 16 goals next season, but it’s the latest excuse to come out of Parkhead as their season has crumbled before their very eyes.

Rangers have a clean run at title glory – and barring an unthinkable disaster – will be crowned Champions in May.

Lennon is convinced that would’ve been a different story had Forrest been involved throughout the campaign when asked that exact question ahead of the weekend’s matches.

“Absolutely, no question,” said Lennon [Glasgow Times]. “He is a top player, a top boy and he loves the club.”

Between awful signings, mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic, an aging squad and a manager who at times has seemed clueless this season, to hang all of Celtic’s woes on Forrest’s absence is more than a tad deflector-y.

Not to mention the fact Rangers are yet to be beaten this season and – Hamilton aside – have looked an unstoppable Tour de Force around Scotland.

Rangers fans have naturally found the entire thing hilarious on Twitter as Lennon cooks up yet more excuses for his side and the Parkhead club falling short so far this season:

It’s not just the comments of Celtic boss Lennon which have had Rangers fans in stitches as of late either.
