“I have been continually astonished by the passion and loyalty that our supporters show our club,” he told Rangers.co.uk. “Time and again, our supporters surpass expectations, may that be for retail purchases, MyGers or now, season tickets.”

“In the midst of the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, selling out season tickets at Ibrox is even more special. As we approach our 150th year, Rangers fans demonstrate their unrivalled loyalty to our club once again.”

Selling 46,500 tickets and hospitality packages is a remarkable achievement for any club in any era.

Yet, amid the unprecedented uncertainty surrounding this season and the financial worries caused by the global health crisis, it’s a truly staggering effort by Gers supporters.

Three home matches have already taken place behind closed doors and although there had been hopes of a limited number of fans being allowed in for the visit of Dundee United on 12 September, localised restrictions and a Scottish Government veto have ensured plans are once again on hold.

Many of those who dug deep for season tickets look set to be unable to attend the vast majority of home fixtures this season but their financial commitment has undoubtedly helped the club to continue to operate and complete transfers in the face of adversity.

Following the announcement, plenty of Bears took to social media to express their pride at the efforts of the support base.
