Rangers facing French competition for pre-contract striker target - report

French outfit Lille have entered the race to sign reported Rangers pre-contract target and KV Oostende striker Fashion Sakala.

A 23-year-old striker who has netted 13 goals in 24 appearances in the Belgian top flight this season, a pre-contract deal certainly appears an attractive one for Rangers going into next season.

But according to the Daily Record, the Gers will face stiff competition for the player’s signature from the Ligue 1 title hopefuls.

The French side – who’re also competing in this season’s Europa League and came through a group with Old Firm rivals Celtic – are currently locked in a four-way battle for the Ligue 1 crown.

Lille are currently 2nd, level on points with Lyon (55) who top the table having played a game more, a point ahead of PSG with dark horses Monaco six points off the top.

Lille have also been dramatically impacted by Financial Fair Play rules which mean their spending has been particularly limited by UEFA, something made harder by the pandemic.

This would suggest that free-agent international striker Sakala does present a promising option but it remains to be seen where the pacey forward’s future lies.

According to the same Daily Record report, Rangers are yet to make their move for the player despite reportedly having an interest.

Lille aren’t the only player reportedly interested in Sakala either, with Premier League sides West Ham and Newcastle United also reportedly interested [Daily Record].

Not only that, but the player himself has previously claimed that discussions with KV Oostende are “going well” regarding an extension at the club.
