Rangers fans were convinced Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard had taken aim at the youngster in a pre-season tournament in France, blasting “ego” at the Academy and claiming any youngsters who want to play for him at Ibrox will need to “commit” to Rangers [Scottish Sun].

Since then, Kennedy has gone on to impress with Caley and reports are now claiming Rangers are in discussions over a new deal for the player [Glasgow Live].

And should Rangers convince Kennedy – who’s been linked to the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the past – to stay at the club, could he take another frozen-out star’s place?

Northern Irish international winger Jordan Jones is currently serving a seven-game suspension alongside defender George Edmundson for breaching Covid-19 regulations and attending a party earlier in the month.

The club has been in front of the situation since it emerged and came down hard on the two players, who have since apologised to their teammates [Rangers].

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard also expressed an eagerness to move on from the situation and kept the door open for both players to return.

But with this the latest in a string of frustrating incidents involving Jordan Jones, there’s every chance the club might part ways with the winger come either the winter or summer windows.

Jones, 27, was the subject of much transfer interest in the summer with as many as six clubs linked to the former Kilmarnock man [TEAMtalk].

With Kennedy eager to see evidence of a pathway into the Ibrox squad, could the talented young winger take his spot in the squad and be given a chance to shine at Rangers?

Jones is a bit-part player with the limited minutes he plays perfectly suited to bleeding a youngster for which many at Rangers once had high hopes.

Kennedy is certainly making an impression at the Tulloch Stadium with a Scottish footballing legend lavishing the youngster with praise amid talk of a new Rangers deal.
