Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has provided a transfer tease by confirming that the club are tracking multiple players but refusing to reveal their identities [RangersTV].

The Gers have been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks, two of whom are Fashion Sakala and Joey Veerman.

A pre-contract deal is reportedly being eyed for the former, who plays as a striker for Belgian top-flight club KV Oostende [Daily Record], while the latter is an in-demand SC Heerenveen midfielder valued at £5m [Scottish Sun].

Gerrard refused to speak about either player specifically, but he did suggest that Rangers plan to make multiple signings over the summer.

“There were a couple of names a week before and a week before that,” he said [RangersTV]. “If there’s anything to say in terms of ins and outs, I will be the first to tell you.”

“We are tracking certain individuals to try and make the group stronger when the window opens. I don’t think it’s the right time to mention individual names or targets that we’re looking at.”

The fact that interest in Sakala and Veerman wasn’t outright denied may be an indication that there’s something in the links to one or both players.

Regardless, though, supporters will be delighted that rather than resting on their laurels following an emphatic title win, Gerrard and the recruitment team are actively looking to improve the squad for next season.

A period of dominance is being eyed by the club but that will only be possible with high-quality work in the transfer market.

In other news, Rangers U18s hammered a rival Premiership club on Friday night, with several promising young players getting on the scoresheet.
