Rangers U18s hammered rival Premiership club Hamilton Academical 5-2 at the Fountain of Youth Stadium on Friday.

Under coaches David McCallum and Cameron Campbell, this age-group side has made an excellent start to their delayed league campaign.

They won their first three CAS League matches last month, sweeping aside Kilmarnock, Dundee United and Hearts, before playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Celtic earlier this week.

The squad is clearly full of confidence right now and the players delivered again in Hamilton on Friday evening.

No team sheet was provided by the Rangers Youth Academy channel due to the social media boycott, but the unofficial Rangers Youth Updates Twitter account provided details at full time.

The Gers pulled off an emphatic victory, with the goals scored by Robbie Ure, Tony Weston, Rory Wilson (2) and Robbie Fraser.

Ure and Weston are both strikers who are showing real promise at this level.

The former scored regularly for the Gers U16s before making the step up in age groups, while the latter joined the club from Blackpool in the summer, having represented the Seasiders in the FA Cup a few months previously.

Wilson was a key part of the Gers’ Alkass Cup squad in early 2020, while Fraser is a talented midfielder.

The coaching staff must be delighted with how the players are performing following such a lengthy break enforced by Covid restrictions and they’ll be hoping for more comprehensive wins between now and the end of their campaign.

In other news, Rangers have been dealt a major double blow ahead of the Old Firm while Celtic have received a boost.
