Rangers have taken one step closer to boosting their Europa League fortunes for this season after beating German giants Borussia Dortmund last week.
The Ibrox side boasts a 4-2 lead over their German counterparts and are now potentially 90 minutes away from a historic victory over one of Europe’s top teams.
But it’s not just prestige that will come with beating Borussia Dortmund as the club’s Europa League coffers prepare to be boosted by potential qualification.
So far this season Rangers have already made a substantial amount in prize money by qualifying for the Europa League knockouts and taking part in the group stages.
Rangers can boost Europa League prize pot with Dortmund victory
As highlighted by Football Coefficient, Rangers have already raked in around €7.4m (£6.2m) in prize money for their participation in the Europa League this season.
But if the club can reach the next round of the competition, it is worth an extra £1m [UEFA] to Rangers, an amount certainly not to be sniffed at.
That would take the club’s Europa League prize pot to £7.2m for the season with Rangers also bound to take belief from victory over the club marked down as tournament favourites before the last match.
Teams get more prize money the further they go in the competition, with prize money rising substantially from the quarter-final stage.
But before Rangers can even dream of getting their hands on any of it the club needs to take care of Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox on Thursday evening.
The Germans bounced back from that 4-2 defeat against Rangers to dismantle Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0 at Signal Iduna Park.
Marco Rose’s side have also been boosted by the news that their star man and key player Erling Haaland – who missed the first leg – has returned to training ahead of the match.
