Borussia Dortmund bounced back in emphatic fashion from their Europa League defeat to Rangers by thrashing Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0.
Rangers recorded a famous 4-2 victory in Germany during the week and stunned the Signal Iduna Park crowd with a legendary performance.
But as the Ibrox side stuttered to a 1-1 draw with Dundee United on their return to domestic duty, Dortmund were dismantling their German rivals.
Marco Reus netted a double in a deadly display whilst Donyell Malen, Marius Wolf, Youssoufa Moukoko and Emre Can rounded off the scoring.
The result keeps Borussia Dortmund within six points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and sends an emphatic message to Rangers that the Europa League tie is anything but over.
Borussia Dortmund win over Monchengladbach comes at Rangers cost
However, this win comes at a cost for a Dortmund side already without star striker Erling Haaland, who remains on the sidelines with the muscle problem.
Giovanni Reyna – the American midfielder and namesake to Ibrox manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst – was forced off heartbroken after only 30 minutes on his return to the starting lineup.
The young USA international midfielder had just spent the bulk of the season on the sidelines with a muscle injury
Dan-Axel Zagadou, who had a shocker in the match against Rangers in Germany, was also forced off just minutes before half-time.
Both will now be major doubts for the clash with Rangers but the Ibrox side will be in no doubts about the quality that is coming to play them in Glasgow on Thursday.
Dortmund have just sent the Ibrox side an emphatic message with the Monchengladbach sin and Rangers will need to be at the top of their game in the Europa League this week.
