Amid Rangers links to a leading Euro U21 defender, it surely means the jig is up for an Ibrox fringe player not currently at the club.
Defender George Edmundson is currently on loan at struggling Derby County who have experienced an almighty collapse under Wayne Rooney and may yet only narrowly escape relegation.

The Championship side could join the ranks of established English sides to be relegated to League One in recent seasons if they do not reverse their woeful run of defeats and Rotherham turn their own poor form around.
It also remains to be seen if they’ll cough up for George this summer.
Edmundson, 23, did undergo a hernia operation whilst at Derby in the second half of the season and has recently returned to action.
In total the defender has made eight appearances for the Rams, including six starts, and even scored in the 2-0 victory over Huddersfield in February.

Leon Balogun has already penned a new deal, whilst Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson will join permanently in the summer following a loan move in January.
Speculation persists surrounding the future of Swedish international defender Filip Helander and it remains to be seen if the defender will be around after the European Championships.

Niko Katic – a fan favourite in Glasgow – is also returning from a season-long injury lay-off and it remains unclear where his future lies in Govan.
In turn Rangers are being linked with Dutch U21 defender Danilho Doekhi as he enters the final year of his deal with some reports even suggesting he’ll be available for £1.5m.

If the Ibrox club do make their move for the talented centre-back, then surely it spells the beginning of the end for Edmundson ahead of the summer transfer window.
Rangers have been extensively linked to Doekhi in the press and a leading broadsheet journalist backed up the claims earlier this week.
