Rangers dealt possible late EGM blow as Brechin City refute dossier claim

Rangers have been dealt a possible late blow ahead of today’s EGM after Brechin City refuted claims made in the Gers’ dossier of evidence.

In a statement released on Monday night, Brechin City’s Management Committee, ‘categorically refuted’ claims made against their Chairman and SPFL Board Member, Ken Ferguson.

A section of the dossier suggested that during the April ballot to end the lower-league season, Ferguson called other League Two clubs telling them that Inverness Caledonian Thistle had changed their vote to ‘Yes’, meaning the SPFL’s resolution was sure to pass and that as a result, there was no point in League Two clubs voting ‘No.’

BCFC say that they have both ‘anecdotal evidence’ and ‘verification from each club that no such call was made’ [brechincity.com]

Verdict

This statement from Brechin City could serve to undermine Rangers’ resolution calling for an independent investigation into the SPFL.

The motion appeared to be gathering momentum across Monday with first Partick Thistle [ptfc.co.uk] and then Aberdeen [afc.co.uk] both publicly announcing their intention to vote in favour.

Hearts, Stranraer, Falkirk and Inverness Caley Thistle have all also been vocal in their criticism of the SPFL.

Yet, Brechin’s late statement, which is apparently supported by considerable evidence, may influence others ahead of the call at 11am this morning.

Rangers need their resolution to be supported by 75% of the 42 member clubs – with specific majorities from each division – for it to be successful.
