Rangers could miss out on a loan move for Man Utd star James Garner who has impressed during two Championship loan spells this season, according to a new report.
The midfielder spent the first half of the campaign at promotion hopefuls Watford whilst the 20-year-old moved to Nottingham Forest for the second half of the campaign.
The player’s agent claimed Rangers have an interest in the player, but a new report is suggesting United want to offer him a new deal in the summer before sending him to foreign shores.
Here’s what the player’s agent Steven Beck said:
“I know Brighton like him, I know Norwich like him. I know Rangers are really keen on him as well,” said Beck [Stretty News].
Now, The Sun [11/04/21, p.67] are claiming United have plans for the midfielder heading into next season with a new contract on the horizon and a creative loan move out of England.
The fact the midfielder could be offered a new deal at Old Trafford is a testament to his ability and after a strong spell at the City Ground perhaps his future lies at a higher level.
The Gers could also have the upper hand in any pursuit of the player given Garner himself – somewhat sacrilegiously – claimed Liverpool legend Gerrard was his idol as a boy.
“My idol was probably Steven Gerrard. I used to watch all the games with my dad and he was the main player I used to watch. I wanted to be like him,” said Garner [Watford].
“I used to wear the Predators, just like him, and I still do today.”
Garner has played 35 games this season across his spells with the Hornets and Forest, with all three of his goals coming in the red of the former European Cup winners.
Garner is one of a number of players being linked to Ibrox ahead of next season with the Gers linked to one striker currently lighting up League One down south.
