Rangers have joined the race for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates, according to The72.

The Sun reported in March that three EFL Championship clubs – Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Bristol City – were interested in Yates, due to his impressive performances in League One.

It was asserted then that the Tangerines valued their asset – who is contracted until 2023 – at £2m.

At that stage, Yates had netted 16 times in all competitions, but he’s since added to his haul, with strikes against Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town and a brace against Gillingham taking him to the 20-goal mark for the season.

The72 reports that Rangers are now also strongly considering a move for Yates in the summer, with the player unlikely to stay at Bloomfield Road given the number of clubs interested in his signature.

Yates’ goals have fired Blackpool into fourth in the table and although automatic promotion remains unlikely, a surprise promotion to the Championship could be achieved via the playoffs.

The 24-year-old spent six years at Rotherham United prior to his switch to Blackpool last summer but has represented a number of other clubs including Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Swindon during loan spells.

Steven Gerrard currently has four main fowards – Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Jermain Defoe and Cedric Itten – at his disposal, but there’s uncertainty regarding the futures of both Morelos and Defoe.

It’s likely that at least one new recruit will be brought in in the summer, with Britt Assombalonga, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Fashion Sakala some of the other strikers linked with Ibrox moves.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have responded after the kick-off time for the Scottish Cup fourth round clash against Celtic was finally confirmed.
