Rangers and Celtic are reportedly tailing Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland [Daily Record] after the striker continued his immense form in the Scottish Championship with a weekend hat-trick.
The talented finisher hit three as Dundee United dismantled Greenock Morton 6-0 to keep their place atop Scotland’s second tier.
But Should Rangers and Celtic make their reported interest official, then you have to say that Rangers have the upper hand with the player.
Why? Because Lawrence Shankland is a well-known bluenose.
The former Ayr United striker was attending matches at Ibrox as early as last year and it’s safe to assume that if it’s a toss-up between Ibrox or Parkhead, then there’s only one destination.
That is of course if Rangers or Celtic make any interest in the player concrete.
Stories concerning Lawrence Shankland and a move to Rangers have been incredibly prevalent over the last two seasons.
Shankland has now managed to score 49 goals over the last two seasons, including 15 in 12 this campaign.
He’s an electric finisher and many Rangers fans have argued that we should’ve moved for the player in the summer with his contract expiring at Ayr United.
But there’s also an argument that Shankland wouldn’t have had the room to develop if he was playing third fiddle to Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe at Ibrox.

Whatever the case, the Ibrox club will be monitoring Shankland’s progress closely.
Over the next season, be it with Dundee United through promotion or otherwise, it’s fair to say we’ll be expecting Shankland to be playing at a higher level soon.
If it’s a straight choice between Rangers or Celtic, it’s more likely to be Ibrox.
