Rangers first-team coach Michael Beale has responded on Twitter to the surprise news that Ibrox hero Neil McCann has been appointed as interim manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
McCann’s appointment was announced in a brief statement on Tuesday night, with the promise that more details and an interview would follow on Wednesday [Ictfc.com].
It’s not the former Gers winger’s first venture into coaching, as he spent time as a member of staff at Dunfermline Athletic soon after his retirement from playing, before a relatively brief spell as manager of Dundee.
Since being sacked by the Dee in October 2018, though, he has since moved into the media, most notably with a regular slot as a pundit for Rangers home matches on RangersTV this season.
However, his appointment at Caley Thistle suggests he’s been searching for a route back into management and Gers first-team coach Beale has wished him all the best in his new role.
“Good luck to Neil McCann on returning to management with ICTFC, it will be great to see him back on the touchline,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Best wishes also to John Robertson and family. I hope the next few weeks go well for all.”

It has been a disappointing season to date for Inverness, who currently sit sixth in the Championship table but just five points above bottom-placed Alloa Athletic, having won only four of their 14 matches to date.
McCann’s first game in charge is set to come on Friday night against another of his former clubs, Hearts, at the Caledonian Stadium.
