Middlesborough captain Britt Assombalonga is “close” to agreeing a move to Rangers, according to a report.
The Democratic Republic of Congo forward has been dropped from the Boro first team amid a contract wrangle with the striker’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Injuries have forced the forward to be recalled to the bench in recent weeks but the 28-year-old is set to leave the Riverside four years after joining the club in a £15m deal from Nottingham Forest.
The Gers were linked to the striker by Give Me Sport earlier in the month but talks appear to have ramped up with TEAMtalk claiming the Gers are closing in on a deal.
According to that report, Rangers are leading the race to sign the striker with Championship clubs down south and clubs in Belgium and Germany also interested.
TEAMtalk believe the striker would take a significant wage cut to join the ranks at Ibrox and have also cast doubts over the future of veteran forward Jermain Defoe as a result.
The striker has broken double figures in his last four seasons and is an established player at Championship level in England, netting 75 goals in total from 219 games.

Assomabalonga has also played for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Peterborough United, and Watford.
The Middlesbrough captain isn’t the only striker being linked with a move to Ibrox with another report suggesting the Gers are close to agreeing a deal for a forward plying his trade in Belgium.
