Rangers captain James Tavernier might’ve missed a penalty last night, but his performances last season certainly hit the spot with the Union Bears.
The marauding Rangers captain picked up the vocal fans group’s Player of the Year Award and accepted it beside the Broomloan Stand.
Tav collecting the award is a powerful image and it’s particularly well deserved. The right-back had 37 goal involvements last season.

Tavernier scored 17 goals and laid on a further 20 in his first season as Rangers captain.
Now in his fifth season with the club, Tavernier is a foundation of the side and a key part of Rangers’ identity as a football team.
His athleticism from right-back, his comfortability in possession and his wicked delivery mean that Tav is arguably the first name on the team sheet.
This award comes after a season where Tav’s influence at Rangers was perhaps understated too, if not by fans, by the press and the powers that be.
The Rangers captain’s monumental season wasn’t deemed good enough to even make it onto a shortlist for any individual awards. That’s despite being the highest-scoring defender in world football.

At least the Union Bears have seen fit to give the Gers captain the credit he deserves for what was a strong campaign last year, which has unsurprisingly brought suitors.
