From one Rangers captain to another, James Tavernier has sent an emotional message to outgoing Rangers icon Lee Wallace.
Lee Wallace has just signed a two-year deal at QPR and will team up with old Rangers boss Mark Warburton. Rangers fans will be very happy Wallace has found a new club.
Current Rangers captain James Tavernier certainly is. And he played homage to his Rangers captain.
It’s a nice touch from James Tavernier and shows just how important a figure Wallace has been in Tav’s Rangers career.
When James Tavernier took on the Rangers captaincy at the beginning of this season, he revealed he first sought the blessing of his captain Lee Wallace.
“It was obviously tough with the circumstances of Waldo [Wallace],” Tavernier told Rangers TV, as quoted by BBC Scotland.
“He has been my captain since I’ve been here, it’s obviously a tough one, and I made sure that I spoke with him first to get his blessing.”
Wallace was stripped of his place in the Rangers side after a monumental fall out with Kenny Miller and Graeme Murty following a Scottish Cup mauling to Celtic.
Whilst it isn’t clear exactly what happened, Wallace never recovered. Neither did Kenny Miller.
But Rangers fans have never forgotten the service Lee Wallace gave to the club.
Now, Wallace moves on to new horizons in London, and everyone at Rangers will be wishing him the best, including James Tavernier.
