Rangers can top Scottish Premiership for first time since 2011

After Rangers ground out an eventually resounding 3-0 win against Livi, it presents the club with a unique opportunity. On Sunday at Tynecastle, we can top the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 2011.

Since the very cusp of 2011/12, Rangers haven’t been atop Scottish football. Celtic beat us 1-0 thanks to a Joe Ledley goal and leapfrogged us at Parkhead in the late December of that year.

The rest is history.

It’s almost exactly seven years since we last reached the summit. And even if Celtic have a game in hand, don’t let that fool you. It’s a major advantage, and a massive milestone for the club.

We can top Scottish Premiership this weekend

Had this been August or September, a trip to Tynecastle would’ve been a lot more intimidating. Now, the Jambos are on the slide.

Their side has been ravaged by injuries and they’re coming off a 2-0 defeat to St. Mirren at the weekend. Since we beat them at Ibrox in October, they’ve only won once.

Hearts are coming off no wins in five. It’s there for us. Of course, after leapfrogging them this weekend, they’ll be wanting to dig in and get a result.

We have to be the favourites going into that match. And what a psychological boost it would provide going into a huge month.

But before we can turn our attention to the Scottish Premiership summit and Tynecastle, we have to handle Villarreal at Ibrox first.

And their main man is promising a fight on Thursday night too.
