Rangers bound forward Fashion Sakala reached a milestone for KV Oostende but was subbed off in a 4-0 hammering at the hands of KAA Gent on Sunday.
The Light Blues confirmed a pre-contract agreement with Sakala earlier this month, with an excited Steven Gerrard later asserting that the Zambia international has potential ‘on a big scale’ [RangersTV].
Rangers are likely watching on with interest right now as the soon-to-be Ger plays his final games in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League.
On Sunday, he was presented with a special shirt ahead of a clash against Gent for reaching 100 matches at KVO.
It’s a strong achievement for a player who only moved to Belgium in 2018 and in that time, he’s scored 29 goals and notched ten assists.
He subsequently took to Instagram to thank his current club.
Things didn’t go according to plan during the game itself, though, as KVO lost a third consecutive league fixture.
Roman Bezus put Gent in front in the 20th minute and things went from bad to worse for the hosts 14 minutes later when Guillaume Hubert was sent off.
Alessio Castro-Montes doubled the visitors’ advantage just before the break, and an own goal from Kevin Vandendriessche and a second for Bezus completed the rout in the second half, with Sakala replaced by Makhtar Gueye in the 70th minute.
Sakala started 2021 brilliantly with a run of eight goals in eight matches, but he’s only netted once in his last nine appearances.
