Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has rubbished high-profile links to Argentinian right-back Leonel di Placido [talkSPORT].
The Lanus wing-back was being touted as a potential replacement for James Tavernier should the influential Gers captain leave the club.
But Steven Gerrard has revealed that any talk of interest in the player is rubbish and that he is happy with James Tavernier as his captain.
“We are really happy with our captain,” Gerrard told the Herald.
“I read that we were linked with a right-back in midweek, which is total rubbish.
“James is a big part of what we’re doing here. He has been one of my consistent players as well.
“So while James is here and he is happy and he is performing, he will remain captain.”
Steven Gerrard makes it pretty clear that the right-back in question – Leonel di Placido – is not on the club’s radar.

That’s despite the player’s agent sharing a story linking Leonel di Placido to Ibrox and interest from Italian giants AS Roma.
So whilst the Lanus wing-back may well be a good player and highly rated in South America, Rangers are quite happy with James Tavernier bombing down the right.
And as long as the 27-year-old Yorkshireman is happy to do it – he’ll remain captain at the club too.
