Earlier this week, a talkSPORT report suggested that Rangers are interested in moving for Leonel Di Placido.
The 25-year-old defender currently plays for Club Atletico Lanus in the Argentinian Primera League, and it was suggested the Gers will look to land him on loan in January, should James Tavernier leave the club.
However unlikely a mid-season departure would be for the skipper, the report was picked up by multiple national outlets.
Then, on Wednesday, the well-known Italian transfer site, Calciomercato, also ran a story on the full-back.
It suggested that he could interest two big Serie A clubs – Roma and Sampdoria.
The article highlights his involvement with the Argentine national squad back in September and insists he is attracting attention elsewhere in Europe. Just as was stated in the talkSPORT report, Rangers, Amiens and Espanyol are credited with interested.
Di Placido’s agent shares transfer report linking player to Rangers
Here’s where it gets interesting, though. The Italian outlet lists Gustavo Rosa and Jean-Christophe Cataliotti as Di Placido’s representatives. A quick social media search takes you to Cataliotti’s Facebook profile, where he has shared a screenshot of the report.
There’s no caption attached to the image and therefore, he isn’t refuting interest from the Light Blues.
Perhaps this is mainly an exercise in self-promotion, given that his own name appears in the piece. Yet, the seemingly positive acknowledgement of the report suggests his player could be on the move in the near future.
Could another South American eventually join El Bufalo at Ibrox? If he does, it would surely spell trouble for January signing, Matt Polster.
