Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has addressed the Rangers support amid the league shutdown caused by the global health pandemic.

As the debate rages on about the league title and where football goes from here, Gerrard has urged calm and said he does not have the answers.

“I think it’s very much a time where football has to become secondary,” said Gerrard.

“People’s lives are at risk, people’s businesses are at risk, so there’s many more important things than football right now.

“It’s very much a time where we all have to stick together. I think we have to be patient.

“I think we’ve got to try and trust the authorities to try and find the right solutions.

“I’m not one who thinks we should be merging seasons and this type of stuff because I think that has different types of problems for the players.

“I don’t have the answers but football is about supporters. The reason I joined Rangers was to coach in front of the wonderful support we’ve got.

“I know all the players feel the same way.

“I don’t think the right thing to do is to all of a sudden to play all the games behind closed doors, I don’t feel that’s fair at all.

“We have to wait, we have to be patient and let’s hope that at some point there is a solution found but I certainly don’t have the answers in that department.”

The Ibrox gaffer was speaking as the SPFL forced a league shutdown following the outbreak with growing uncertainty over what happens to the league season.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon called for the Parkhead club to be awarded the title earlier in the week, but Steven Gerrard shied away from responding to this directly.

Ultimately, the message from the Rangers manager to fans was to remain patient and to focus on looking after their families as the country and world enters a period of immense global uncertainty.
