Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has provided an injury update regarding a trio of key first-team players with the Ibrox gaffer tempering expectations regarding two in particular.
Gers duo Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier limped off the 4-3 win against Royal Antwerp last week whilst midfielder Ryan Jack went off during the 4-1 win over Dundee United.
Speaking to the press ahead of the club’s second leg Round of 32 against Royal Antwerp at Ibrox this week, Gerrard confirmed that “nothing has changed” regarding Roofe and Tav.
However he did give a more positive update regarding Ryan Jack who will be missing for a couple of week but has not suffered any muscle damage.
“Nothing has changed on Roofe and Tavernier, we will work closely with our medical team to get them back as soon as possible,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“Jack is more positive, not any muscle damage but he is likely to be a couple of weeks but nothing long-term.”
The Jack news is particularly positive especially considering how frustrated Steven Gerrard had been with the midfielder after the win over the Arabs.
Gerrard criticised Jack for failing to raise any calf issues with him earlier in the match but thankfully the club’s worst fears haven’t been realised, even if he will miss the match with Antwerp.
“Hopefully we’ve got to the injury before it becomes an injury,” said Gerrard [RangersTV].
“He’s felt some tightness in his calf early in the game. He hasn’t felt anything tear which is good but we’re going to have to scan it and see what it is.
“He first felt it after ten minutes so I’m a little bit upset that he hasn’t reported it after ten minutes and he’s played on for a little bit longer, so we’ll have to scan it and see what the damage is.
“Fingers crossed he’s not out because he’s so important to us.”
Meanwhile, Rangers fans are somewhat disappointed after it was officially announced that Celtic manager Neil Lennon has “resigned” from his post at the club.
