As Rangers boss Steven Gerrard gets it right in Glasgow, spare a thought for another Premier League legend who won’t get the chance to in London.
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been relieved of his duties at the Premier League giants after a summer of heavy spending mid-pandemic has bore little fruit.

The Blues find themselves in 9th place in the Premier League despite spending over £220m in the summer transfer window.
To put that into perspective, Man City – contenders for the title – are second with around £140m whilst Leeds come in third with around £95m [Football Faithful].
It’s also worth noting that Chelsea were operating under a transfer ban in Lampard’s first summer in charge [BBC Sport].
Ex-PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is being lined up to replace Lamps at Stamford Bridge – perhaps to find a tune out of new Chelsea signings and fellow Germans Kai Havertz and Timo Werner – but maybe the situation involving the ex-England midfielder should serve as a warning to Gerrard.
Frank Lampard is to Chelsea, pretty much what Steven Gerrard is to Liverpool.
Despite being a midfielder, Lampard is the West London side’s greatest-ever goalscorer (211) and is 4th in their all-time appearance list (648).
Lampard won 13 major honours with the club, including three Premier Leagues, a Europa League and a Champions League.
He is a bonafide Chelsea legend and yet he has been unceremoniously dumped from the manager’s seat in a difficult season for the club.
Lampard lasted roughly 18 months in charge of Chelsea and it perhaps says something about a lack of loyalty in the top club game and cutthroat nature of Premier League football.

With Liverpool creaking this season there’s been increasing pressure too on the likes of Jurgen Klopp, despite the German winning a Champions League trophy and Liverpool’s first Premier League title in a generation within the last three seasons.
If something was to happen to the German – who is contracted to Anfield until 2024 – then the attention would almost immediately turn to Steven Gerrard.
But the Rangers boss would do well to look at the situation with Lampard and consider his short, medium and long-term legacy with the club he loves in Liverpool.
Timing is everything in football and perhaps Lampard’s emotions got the better of him when offered the Chelsea job after an initially successful spell with Derby County.

Gerrard could learn from this and perhaps make any potential Liverpool decision – a job he may only get offered once – with his head and not just his heart.
Rangers fans have been warning Liverpool and their fans off a move for Gerrard as they insist the former England captain should be at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.
