Steven Gerrard has made exciting comments about Rangers star Alfredo Morelos ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup fourth round clash against Celtic [Glasgow Live].
Morelos has been the main striker at Ibrox since his arrival from HJK Helsinki in 2017.
But while he’s scored freely against most other teams in Scotland and excelled regularly in Europe, he’s tended to struggle in Old Firms.
In fact, he drew a blank in 14 consecutive derbies before finally breaking his duck with a header in a 1-1 draw at Parkhead in the Premiership last month.
It was one of five goals in his last six domestic appearances and with the monkey now off his back, Gerrard says the 24-year-old is raring to go ahead of another clash with the Hoops.
“He’ll definitely have the bit between his teeth,” said the Rangers boss [Glasgow Live]. “That goes without saying. Anyone who knows Alfredo, and working with him closely, that’s one thing you can never judge him on.”
“When he puts a kit on and crosses the white line he’s always game. He’s always up for it. He always gives it his best. It was big for him from a personal point of view to get that goal because a lot of people were speaking about that.
“He’s got the belief and confidence from myself, the players and the staff. We know what he can do.”
With 16 in all competitions, El Bufalo is currently just one goal behind Rangers’ current top scorer James Tavernier.
If he manages to overtake the skipper on Sunday, there’s every chance the Gers will progress to the next round.
