Rangers loanee Josh McPake scored a dramatic late winner against Bradford City to finally bring Harrogate Town’s dire run in EFL League Two to an end.

Prior to their home clash against the Bantams on Saturday afternoon, Town hadn’t won any of their last seven matches.

They had picked up just two points in that time, falling to five defeats as their impressive early-season form deserted them.

They finally stopped the rot in this one, though, and Simon Weaver has his Rangers loanee to thank.

Harrogate were ahead at the break courtesy of a Jack Muldoon goal, but Bradford stuck to their task and drew level in the 72nd minute through Andy Cook.

The hosts struggled to create clear chances after being pegged back and the game looked set to peter out into a draw before a moment of brilliance from McPake in the 89th minute.

The 19-year-old cut inside from the left flank and curled a brilliant right-footed shot beyond the keeper and into the top corner.

With Town managing to get through injury time to register a 2-1 win, they have now officially secured their EFL status for another season.

Therefore, it’s fair to say that this was the most important of McPake’s four league goals to date.

The youngster will be high in confidence after also netting in a midweek draw with Leyton Orient, and he’ll be hoping to add to his tally before it’s time to return to Ibrox.

In other news, another on loan Gers winger scored a crucial spot-kick for his side in a Scottish Cup victory on Friday night.
