Rangers boss Gerrard delivers injury update on Barisic after Hamilton win

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has delivered an injury update on Borna Barisic to RangersTV, following Saturday afternoon’s 4-1 win at Hamilton in the Scottish Cup

The Croatian international went down in some pain midway through the second half, provoking panic from Bears on social media.

After receiving treatment, he was able to briefly carry on, but after Joe Aribo’s goal in the 68th minute, a decision was made to bring him off, replacing him with Andy Halliday.

“There is a concern there at the moment,” Gerrard admitted to RangersTV. “I think he’ll be a doubt for midweek [Kilmarnock].”

“Hopefully the physios can work a bit of magic, as he’s got a bit of a problem. A bit of tightness in the hip and a bit of an issue.

“We don’t think it’s a major concern, but he’s one that we’re going to have to try and do our best to get out there on Wednesday, because he’s so important for us.”

It’ll be a major relief to Rangers fans that Barisic doesn’t appear to be looking at an extended period on the sidelines.

Outstanding over the first half of the season, he’s established himself as a key member of this Rangers side, racking up 14 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

However, such is his influence and the lack of adequate cover, the idea of him missing even one game will be a concern.

As the Gers found out last season, in particular, Rugby Park can be a tough place to go, and fans would feel a lot more comfortable having an established international at left-back than either Andy Halliday or Jon Flanagan.

The last time Barisic missed an away trip, Rangers dropped points at Pittodrie.
