In a boost for Rangers, powerful full-back Calvin Bassey has shared a training image after missing the last two matches following the Covid outbreak at Ibrox.

Bassey served as Borna Barisic’s understudy last season but took advantage of the Croatian’s shaky early-season form to put together a run of three consecutive appearances in August.

The 21-year-old played in a League Cup tie against Dunfermline, the Europa League playoff first leg against Alashkert and a Premiership fixture at Ross County.

However, just like a number of his teammates, he missed the second leg against Alashkert and Sunday’s Old Firm, following the Covid outbreak.

Bassey now looks to be back available once again, though, as he shared a training image to his Instagram story on Wednesday, much to the excitement of some fans.

Full team sessions will prove difficult this week with a number of players away on international duty, but a return to training of some kind will no doubt be a relief for those who had to self-isolate.

Rangers are next in action away at St Johnstone in the Premiership on 11 September and it’ll be interesting to see whether Gerrard goes for Bassey or Barisic at left-back, with the latter looking much more like his usual self against Celtic.

The atmosphere during the Old Firm was incredible and a post-match rendition of a new Rangers anthem prompted an overseas DJ to vow to perform at Ibrox.
