Rangers B pulled off a superb 2-1 win over East Kilbride in Dumbarton thanks to a ‘fantastic’ late strike from a player ‘on the same path as Nathan Patterson’.

The Young Gers started their Lowland League campaign excellently, with wins over Bo’ness United, the Spartans and East Stirlingshire, all without conceding a goal.

They were given a wake-up call in the form of a 3-1 defeat to Civil Service Strollers late last month but bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a victory over title favourites EK.

Kyle McClelland captained the side, while former Man United starlet Charlie McCann made his debut in midfield.

It was a player who joined the Gers last summer that opened the scoring, though, with former Blackpool starlet Tony Weston finding the net in the 17th minute with a shot from 20 yards.

EK have struggled for early season form but they got themselves back into the contest, with Neil McLaughlin scoring two minutes after the interval.

Chances followed for both sides but it was the Gers who would eventually snatch all three points, with Adam Devine finding the bottom right corner with a ‘fantastic effort’ from distance in the 85th minute.

18-year-old right-back Devine spent time on loan at Brechin City last season, with then-manager Michael Paton asserting that Rangers believe him to be ‘on the same path as Nathan Patterson’ [Brechincity.com].

Luke Kenny was sent off for the visitors in the 88th minute after taking out Arron Lyall and the Gers saw out a short period of injury time before celebrating their return to winning ways.

B team coach David McCallum asked for a reaction following the defeat to the Strollers and he certainly got it.

Elsewhere this weekend, a former Rangers player scored a fine goal for a club who have stolen a march on the Light Blues.
