It’d take a brave Rangers fan to claim he knew we were destined for the Europa League group stages this season.

Ironically, now it’d take an ever braver one to claim we’re not out on our way to Baku. Whilst Rangers fans have been swept up into the buzz of Europa League qualification, the journey to the competition hasn’t gone unnoticed across Europe.

From Liverpool to London, from Motherwell to Moscow, Glasgow Rangers are the talk of the town on Thursday nights.

We aren’t just in the Europa League this year. We’re fast becoming the story of it.

We’re on our way

How we get there I don’t know, how we get there I don’t care. Rangers fans are in boisterous spirit on these European nights. We’ve been a credit to the club and the support each time the European floodlights have been turned on this season.

Whilst others – our rivals included – have shirked and played down the glamour of the competition, we’ve not flinched.

It’s our first season in Europe for close to a decade. When you multiply that by the Gerrard factor and a massive fan base, it’s an enthralling watch. Everyone has one eye on the progress we’re making. No pun intended.

There’s a reason the Europa League’s Official Twitter page are routinely mentioning Rangers. People are interested. There’s also a brilliant segment from UEFA on the club’s rise.

We’ve went from entry level qualifiers to the top of Group G in the blink of an eye. But we can’t get complacent in this group if we stand any chance of getting out of it.

Whether we make it to Baku or not, tomorrow night will at least be the chance to take one step closer.

And trust me, there are plenty of people interested in the outcome.
