Rangers’ hopes of recouping at least £2.5m from the sale of striker Sam Lammers have taken a positive turn amid the Dutchman’s latest exploits with Utrecht.
The 26-year-old Dutch striker toiled at Rangers following a £3.5m summer move from Atalanta and was eventually farmed back to his homeland in January.
Since then, the unorthodox forward has begun to find his feet and form with Sam Lammers proving himself a matchwinner in this weekend’s clash with NEC Nijmegen.
Lammers scored the only goal of the game – and his third since joining Utrecht – to defeat NEC despite their Eredivisie rivals being two spots above them in the table.
Sam Lammers leading the Utrecht pack
In another impressive performance, the goal means Sam Lammers is only one off Victor Jensen when it comes to goal contributions for Utrecht for the entire season.
Jensen – who has four goals and three assists – leads the pack with seven but Sam Lammers is already on course to overtake him on six.
Should the attacker’s fine form continue at FC Utrecht, then we suspect there might just be a little bit of pressure in the Netherlands to complete a deal.
But the question is will the Dutch side – who named Sam Lammers as the Player of the Match in the win over NEC – stump up for the Ibrox striker?
Rangers are expecting a not unsubstantial fee to be paid for the striker, who has been labelled a “fantastic” signing by the press in Holland.
Rangers to recoup £2.5m on Dutch striker?
There’s no doubt Sam Lammers has turned things around a little ever since moving to Utrecht and it’s got transfer optimism increasing in the Rangers camp.
After sanctioning the loan deal, reports suggested that Rangers would demand £2.5m to make the switch permanent given the fee paid only last summer.
Rangers also hold all the cards when it comes to Sam Lammers, who signed a four-year deal to mooted fanfare during the tenure of then manager Michael Beale.

There is scant chance the striker comes back to Rangers full-time at the end of the season and we’d expect him to be moved on from the squad.
Recouping £2.5m would represent good business and whilst we might well cut our losses at £1m, it’s an extra boost to the club’s transfer coffers ahead of a busy window.
