Progres Niederkorn v Rangers - match preview and predicted XI

Last week as Rangers welcomed Progres Niederkorn to Ibrox, you’d have been forgiven for feeling a little tetchy going into the final 20 minutes.
As far as the performance was concerned, Rangers were utterly dominant for the overwhelming majority of the match.
But for a fine performance by French goalkeeper Sebastien Flauss – and a missed penalty by James Tavernier – the 2-0 scoreline would’ve been much more convincing.

However, as Rangers huffed and puffed for that third goal, Ibrox grew restless. So did the team.
The side’s frustration was evident as Gerrard’s players lost their shape and could’ve even conceded a frustrating away goal if not for the exploits of Allan McGregor, his first major European saves of the season.

That said, any notion that Rangers have failed to kill this tie should be dispelled pretty routinely in Luxembourg.
Even if we’re returning for the first time since that fateful night.
If we score one, they need to score four. Another goal effectively sends us through and the Luxembourg side know it.
They need to throw caution to the wind and given Rangers superior quality, you expect us to take full advantage.

Whilst this may not be a cricket score, you’d expect Rangers to comfortably race into the lead then take the foot off the gas with one eye on Sunday’s league opener, this time against Kilmarnock.
But we said that the last time…
Should Rangers manage to get past Progres in Luxembourg, a tie with Danish side FC Midtjylland awaits.
